Gods and Goddesses

Athens was arguably the most important Goddess to the ancient Greeks. She was so important to them because she was the "goddess of wisdom, but also the poetic symbol of reason and purity. Goddess Athena was very important to the Greeks, since they named her the Iliad's goddess of fight, the warrior-defender, the protector of civilized life and artisan activities." I believe she was so important and if we still believed about all these Gods today because her critical thinking and reasoning would lead to advanced in technology, and medicine. She would also help war go smoothly and she would serve justice to those who deserved it. She was a very smart woman with a lot of logic, this is what made her become the most important Goddess of Ancient Greece.

In Greek the parthenon means "the virgin's place" which was for Athena who was the virgin Goddess. After research I have found that in the beginning of its existence it was a treasury of the Delian League, which shortly became the Athenian Empire. in the war they store ammunition and other valuables in it. Then after this in the 19th century The Parthenon became a tourist attraction because everyone wanted to learn about the history of it, and just admire the beautiful building. The Parthenon is so crazy because of how many things it has been through and everything it stood for. I believe this is one of the coolest things I've learned from Ancient Greece and sometime I would love to take a trip to visit it.

Some of the other major Gods and Goddesses were also important back then to. For example Demeter, she was the Goddess of harvest and they thought she played big role in the crops, and how much food the farmers could produce. Another important one was Apollo who was the God of the sun, this is who they thought cause the sun to rise and set every night, he was also the the God of music and art which was also big back then. And I believe the most important one was Zeus who was the King of the Gods, he was the God of thunder so whenever they were in a storm they instantly thought that it was Zeus. Sometimes they thought he was punishing them depending on how bad the storm was. This is only a small group of the Gods and Goddesses, there is a lot more important and popular Gods and Goddesses that I did not mention.

Mythology was a part of every day life in Ancient Greece, so you could see why almost everything that happened they thought that it was caused by someone much more powerful than them. Some of the things for example of this is Apollo, as I recently said they thought this is who rose and set the sun every morning and night. Also as I recently said whenever there was thunder, they would instantly think that the king of Gods Zeus was present. Lastly, whenever they had a very good crop production season or a terrible one they always thought it was Demeter either rewarding them or punishing them.

In Conclusion, you can see how much these Gods and Goddesses effected the Greeks everyday life. They went through so much and everything they went through they always though a God was rewarding them or punishing them, but in reality they were just going through real life but didn't have to technology or enough knowledge to know what was actually going on. I'm glad we figured out that there is not this many Gods because if not I feel like I would always be in fear of getting punished by one of the Gods. It's crazy to me that they believed all of this stuff was coming from Gods, but when you really think about it you see they didn't know any better.
